Barrel Select Grenache 2013
The 'Barrel Select Grenache' is the result of a unique combination between careful selection and experienced craftsmanship by Saint Hilaire cellar master Vincent MAUREL. Of all the wines at Saint Hilaire, this is the one with that very personal touch.
Thursday 3rd October 2013. An exceptionally cool year in the Languedoc and a late harvest. Early start, gathering in the courtyard at sunrise by the mulberry tree, before heading up to the 30 year old Grenache vines at the top of the Gineste parcel. Picked and sorted with my own hands that morning, these grapes were on the start of a two year journey where only the best three barrels would make the final blend.
I hope you enjoy how the story ends....
In French oak barrels for 13 months.
This is a serious red expressing the rich fruit profile of Grenache from the Languedoc. Intense aromas of raspberries and subtle Christmas spices give way to a juicy chocolate orange palate with well integrated tanins. An excellent companion to sweet duck or pork dishes, Mediterranean style fish dishes and spiced cheeses.
